Eight years after making his singing debut in Bajirao Mastani, singer Shreyas Puranik eventually got his due through the romantic ballad Sa tranga from the movie Animal. However, he admits that the struggle is still on. As he calls himself a sculpture at the FICCI FRAMES, Shreyas talks to us about his endeavor hitherto.

'I couldn’t enjoy the success of Bajirao Mastani'

Shreyas sang Gajanana an d Ab Tohe Jaane Na Dungi in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial. He shares, "The definition of success is very subjective. For some it is singing one song and for others it is singing hundred songs. Bajirao Mastani was a massive hit, but I couldn’t enjoy the overall success of that. But eventually patience is the key. I kept my patience and kept going."

'Satranga was supposed to be a part of another movie'

Eight years after his debut, Shreyas got a chartbuster through Sat ranga which also fetched him multiple awards. “The inspiration behind Satranga was the rejections I faced from the industry. Itni baar dil toddy diya toh wohi inspiration ban gayi. And then that song was supposed to be a part of another film, for a big production house. But the makers did not love the track. It was rejected and we were sulking when that happened. Then I was at a Diwali party when Sandeep (Reddy Vanga, filmmaker) overheard the track. He didn’t understand the lyrics of the song and asked us to explain it to us. And then it fell in the laps of Animal. It was a dream come true,” Shreyas recalls.

Not choosy yet!

While Animal left the audience divided, Shreyas is clear that he doesn’t have conflict of interest. “We have seen the time when we didn’t have work. After getting success, people do get choosy. However, for me everything is an opportunity. I would always like to seek that koi bhi story mile I would do it. I don’t have any criteria that I cannot do anything. Also, we have got movies which I wanted to work. So, we have never had the conflict of interest. Also, makers don’t give us the entire script, they only give us situations,” he ends.
