Brain puzzle: Can you spot what shouldn't be in this fridge?

Send Push

At first glance, this fridge is a dream. It’s colorful, jam-packed with everything from leafy greens to leftover roast chicken, and it’s organized in a way most of us can only aspire to. But wait a second. Take a closer look. Nestled among the watermelons and the whipped cream cake, a few imposters are hiding out—and they definitely don’t belong behind those chilly doors.

If you observe carefully, a few items that should never be kept inside the fridge are: red wine, eye cream, nail polish, sunscreen, hot food, pet food, flowers, flannels, lipstick, and phones. Your fridge is not a magical storage cave for everything you own. Stuffing random things inside might feel clever, but trust us, some items are better left out in the wild (aka your counter, cabinet, or makeup bag).

Take red wine—the cold mutes its flavor. It’s supposed to be sipped smooth, not sipped shivering. Eye cream and lipstick? Sure, a little chill can feel nice, but too cold and they lose their texture or stop working right. Nail polish turns gloopy, and sunscreen separates faster than a bad relationship.

Hot food straight into the fridge? Big mistake. It raises the internal temp and can spoil other stuff. Let it cool first. Pet food? Only if it’s leftover wet food—dry kibble in the fridge? Weird and pointless.

And don’t even get us started on flowers—they’ll wilt faster. Phones? You’re not reviving it with cold therapy; condensation can wreck the inside. Flannels? That’s just laundry confusion.

Speaking to Mirror, Sarah Heaps, a food storage expert highlighted the need to understand what to place and what not to place inside a fridge through this image. “While items like sunscreen and nail polish might feel refreshing cold, the fridge can actually damage their effectiveness or texture. And items like hot food or pet food can increase the risk of bacterial growth, making your fridge unsafe for food," she explained.

“It's important readers understand that not everything benefits from being stored in the fridge," she told the media.

Bonus tip: Did you see the teddy bear? Sitting on top of the fridge, it might not technically be in the fridge, but still why is it hanging out in the kitchen like a health inspector in disguise? Cuddly toys and cold storage don’t mix. Dust, lint, and plush fabric are better off far from anything edible. If this was meant to be cute, let’s just say it’s a hygiene horror waiting to happen.

So yeah, your fridge is great but it’s not a junk drawer. Use it wisely. Your food (and life) will thank you.
