AMBALA : Rebellion by three ticket aspirants of Congress in Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment constituencies have put the party in a tough situation, as they filed nomination papers as independent candidates on Thursday to contest against the nominated party candidates.

Chitra Sarwara in Ambala Cantt, daughter of former minister Nirmal Singh who is Congress candidate from Ambala City, has filed papers as independent candidate against party’s nominated candidate Parvinder Singh Pari.

Similarly, in Ambala City, two Congress senior leaders Jasbir Mallour and Himmat Singh have filed papers as independent candidates against their party’s nominated candidate Nirmal Singh.

So far, no disciplinary action has come to fore against the rebel leaders from Congress leadership.

Chitra, whose father is close to former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was among top contenders for Congress ticket from Ambala Cantt, but the same went to Parvinder Singh, who is close to Sirsa MP Kumari Selja.

Chitra also addressed a gathering of his supporters in Ambala Cantt, where she said, “If we do not get a ticket, then it cannot stop us from contesting in the election. I am not able to understand how a person gets ready to eat other people's earnings. This ticket allocation will cost the party heavily. This seat is among the hottest seats in Haryana and we have been raising people’s voices for the last 10 years, but the man who got the ticket did not raise any voice. We will defeat the ego from here.”

Chitra went on to say that she accepts that Congress did not give her ticket but she never said that she is daughter of Congress but she is daughter of Ambala.

“Whether Congress gives ticket or not, I will surely take the vote from Ambala. Party’s survey will fail but I think the people's survey will not fail. Last time, they (Congress) lost their deposit. I am confident that a change will take place in Ambala”, added Chitra while thanking those in Congress who supported her. She said she will start election campaigning in the coming days at the booth level.

Chitra was runner up in Ambala Cantt in the 2019 assembly election, as she contested against Haryana’s ex-home minister Anil Vij as an independent candidate. In 2019, Vij bagged 64,571 votes while Chitra got 44,406 votes, a margin of 20,165.
