NEW DELHI: Defending champions India will face Sri Lanka in the final of the Women's Asia Cup on Sunday, with India aiming to secure their eighth title. India have shown exceptional form throughout the tournament, dominating their opponents with both bat and ball.

India's journey to the final includes comprehensive victories, such as a seven-wicket win over Pakistan, a 78-run victory against UAE, an 82-run triumph against Nepal, and a convincing 10-wicket defeat of Bangladesh. The team's top-order batters, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma , have been instrumental, each scoring over 100 runs with strike rates above 140. This has provided strong starts and solid foundations for India's innings.

The Indian bowling attack has been equally impressive. Deepti Sharma, the tournament's leading wicket-taker with nine wickets, and Renuka Singh, who has taken seven wickets, have maintained exceptional economy rates of 4.37 and 4.31 respectively. Their performances have put immense pressure on opposing batters, restricting scoring opportunities and facilitating wickets for other bowlers like Radha Yadav, who has taken six wickets at an economy of 5.5.

Despite India's dominance, there are minor concerns as per PTI report. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues have had limited opportunities to bat. Harmanpreet has only batted twice in three matches, although she scored a notable 66 in one of them. Rodrigues is yet to find her rhythm in the tournament. The team management will hope these experienced players can deliver if required in the final.

Sri Lanka have also had an unbeaten run in the tournament, including a massive 144-run victory over Malaysia. Captain Chamari Athapathuthu has been the standout performer for Sri Lanka, leading the run-scorers with 243 runs. However, Sri Lanka's reliance on Athapathuthu is evident as no other batter has crossed the 100-run mark. Rushmi Gunarathne is the second-highest run-scorer for the team with 91 runs. Similarly, their bowling attack has been less effective, except for off-spinner Kavisha Dilhari, who has taken seven wickets at an economy of 5.35.

For Sri Lanka to challenge India, they will need significant contributions from their other batters and bowlers. India's consistency and depth make them favorites, but Sri Lanka's spirited performances and Athapathuthu's form could pose a threat.

As both teams prepare for the final, the stage is set for an exciting showdown. India looks to extend their Asia Cup dominance, while Sri Lanka aims for an upset to clinch the title.
