Old Shedeur Sanders video teasing Travis Hunter gains attention after Jaguars' surprising NFL Draft pick

In a bold, franchise-defining move during the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off one of the most talked-about deals of the night by trading up to secure the No. 2 overall pick and select Colorado’s electric two-way superstar, Travis Hunter. The team sacrificed a significant haul — including second- and fourth-round picks this year and their 2026 first-rounder — but made it clear they weren’t just drafting a player; they were investing in a generational game-changer.

Jaguars passed on Travis Hunter—just like Shedeur Sanders once joked in resurfaced viral video

This wasn’t just about talent. It was a tone-setter for a new regime led by first-time general manager James Gladstone, first-time head coach Liam Coen, and executive vice president Tony Boselli. For a team entering a new chapter, drafting Hunter sent a powerful message: the Jaguars are ready to swing big.

“There are players that you can target and acquire who alter the trajectory of a game,” Gladstone said. “There are very few, and it’s rare to be able to target and prioritize a player who can alter the sport itself. And Travis is somebody that we view has the potential to do that.”

Travis Hunter, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, certainly fits that mold. His ability to excel both as a cornerback and wide receiver puts him in a rare category. As he confidently strode onto the draft stage Thursday night with a beaming smile beside NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, it was clear he knew the magnitude of this moment — not just for his career but for Jacksonville’s future.

Interestingly, Hunter may not have always been thrilled about the idea of ending up in Duval County. A video clip that resurfaced shortly after his selection shows Colorado teammate Shedeur Sanders poking fun at him during an episode of The Travis Hunter Show in December 2024.

“What’s my favorite NFL team?” Hunter asked.

“Jaguars,” Sanders responded with a mischievous grin.

“Bruh,” Hunter laughed, clearly unimpressed.

At the time, it seemed Jacksonville wasn’t high on Hunter’s list. But perceptions evolve quickly in the NFL — especially when the team invests heavily in you and hands you the keys to reshape its identity.

Despite that viral moment, Hunter admitted he had a feeling he might end up wearing the black and teal. According to reports, he was already looking at houses in Jacksonville the night before the draft, and discussions between his camp and the franchise hinted at growing momentum. “It just felt right,” he reportedly told those close to him. That intuition was spot-on.

Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network later revealed that Jacksonville had been in trade talks with the Cleveland Browns for the No. 2 pick for two weeks. Most mock drafts had Hunter heading to Cleveland, but behind the scenes, the Jaguars were orchestrating their move with surgical precision. Ultimately, it paid off.

While Cleveland missed out, Jacksonville fans are celebrating the acquisition of a rare two-way talent who could redefine how players are used in today’s league. Coach Liam Coen appears ready to unleash Hunter on both sides of the ball, and pairing him with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence opens up thrilling possibilities for the offense.

For a player often compared to Deion Sanders — both for his on-field swagger and his dynamic skill set — the expectations are sky-high. But Hunter seems unfazed, already exuding the confidence of a veteran.

By not only drafting Hunter but doing so in such dramatic fashion, Jacksonville has made a statement: the franchise isn’t settling for middle-of-the-pack mediocrity anymore. They’re going all-in on greatness — and Travis Hunter just might be the spark that ignites it.

The Jaguars didn’t just get their man. They might have gotten the future of football.
