Will Hunter Greene play tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates? Latest update on Cincinnati Reds star's injury report (April 11, 2025)

Send Push
The Cincinnati Reds (5-8) are set to face the Pittsburgh Pirates (5-8) at Great American Ball Park tonight, with both teams currently tied for last place in the National League Central. As the Cincinnati Reds prepare for this crucial weekend series, fans are wondering about the status of star pitcher Hunter Greene , whose name has appeared in rotation discussions despite not being officially announced as a starter for any of the three games.

Hunter Greene is expected in the Cincinnati Reds rotation against the Pittsburgh Pirates series
The latest reports suggest Hunter Greene will get the start in the weekend series against the Pirates, although that date has not been confirmed. Currently, the Cincinnati Reds' probable pitchers for the series include Brady Singer for Friday's opener, and Saturday and Sunday's starters are TBD (to be determined). Part of the reason for the uncertainty in the rotation is that left-hander Andrew Abbott is expected to return from the 15-day injured list, where he was recovering from a rotator cuff injury.

The Cincinnati Reds have confirmed that right-hander Brady Singer (2-0, 2.25 ERA) will take the mound for Friday's series opener against Pittsburgh's left-hander Bailey Falter (0-1, 8.10 ERA). The game begins at 6:40 PM ET on April 11, 2025, at Great American Ball Park and will be broadcast exclusively on Apple TV+.

The Cincinnati Reds are set to use a mix of Brady Singer, Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott for the rest of the weekend but have not yet announced who will be first in the order. A potential activation from the injury list for Abbott would be a huge boost to a Reds team that has struggled against left-handed pitchers this year, posting a .210 wOBA and 26 wRC+ against southpaws.

The Cincinnati Reds are battling injury concerns as the Pittsburgh Pirates visit
The Cincinnati Reds are currently navigating a series of injury challenges that have impacted their lineup and pitching staff. Matt McLain (hamstring), Tyler Stephenson (oblique), and Austin Hays (calf) are all on the 10-day injury list, significantly weakening the team's offensive capabilities against left-handed pitching—a particular concern with the Pirates sending consecutive lefties to the mound to start the series.

On the pitching side, closer Alexis Diaz remains on the 15-day injury list with a hamstring issue, while Andrew Abbott is expected to return from his rotator cuff injury during this weekend series. The Cincinnati Reds have managed to stay competitive despite these setbacks, maintaining a positive run differential despite their 5-8 record.

With Pittsburgh also struggling at 5-8 and holding a -19 run differential, this weekend series presents an opportunity for the Reds to gain momentum, especially with Pirates' ace Paul Skenes not scheduled to pitch in the three-game set.
