Meerut building collapse: 3 dead; rescue operations continue

NEW DELHI: Three people including a child died after a three-story building collapsed in Meerut 's Zakir Colony on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.s

“In this incident, a man named Sajid who is around 40 years of age and his 2.5-year-old daughter died. About three people have died in total, including a child, one female and one male,” says Meerut DM Deepak Meena.

Earlier, commissioner Meerut division Selva Kumari said that 8-10 people were believed to be trapped.

"A building has collapsed in Zakir Colony. 8-10 people are trapped under it. Rescue operation is underway. Police and fire officials are carrying out rescue operation. Army, NDRF, SDRF have been informed," said Selva Kumari.

Senior officials, including ADG DK Thakur, IG Nachiketa Jha, and SSP Dr Vipin Tada," have arrived at the location to supervise the rescue efforts and teams from the NDRF, fire brigade, and police are working to rescue the victims from the debris.
