NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday extended the ceasefire agreement with the breakaway faction of insurgent Naga outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) led by Niki Sumi , for a further period of one year till September 7, 2025.
The ceasefire agreement was initially signed between the Government of India and the NSCN(K)-Niki group on September 8, 2021, “fulfilling the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of an insurgency-free and prosperous northeast”, as per the ministry of home affairs. More than 200 cadres of the group, along with 83 weapons, had then joined the peace process.
The ceasefire period has since been extended each year.
NSCN (K) Niki group is led by Niki Sumi, a wanted accused in the NIA case relating to the killing of 18 Indian Army soldiers in an ambush in Chandel, Manipur, in 2015. NIA had subsequently announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on Sumi.
The Naga outfits with which the Centre is in a ceasefire include the NSCN (IM), NSCN-NK, NSCN-R, NSCN K-Khango and NSCN (K) Niki.
