EOW summons ticket booking firm CEO, its tech head over Coldplay event

MUMBAI: The Economic Offences Wing ( EOW ) of the Mumbai police , probing the complaint filed by a lawyer against BookMyShow and Live Nation over Coldplay ticket fraud , have summoned the Chief Executive Officer of Big Tree Entertainment Private Limited (BookMyShow), Ashish Hemrajani , and the technical head of the company.

An official confirmed they have prima facie summoned these two officers in their ongoing probe into the blackmarketing of tickets for the Coldplay concert , which will be held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai in January.

"In the ongoing preliminary inquiry, we have summoned these two officials to join the investigations on Saturday. We will record their statement on lawyer Amit Vyas's complaint."

The allegations centre around the ticket sales for the three-day event scheduled for January 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, tickets for which went live on Sunday, Sept 22, on BookMyShow - the official ticketing partner for the British band's India shows.

Vyas has filed a complaint with the EOW, accusing BookMyShow and Live Nation Entertainment of orchestrating a massive ticket scam linked to Coldplay's India concert. He has alleged that it is a clear-cut case and hence police should register an offence under multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for cheating, criminal conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust.

In response to the allegations, BookMyShow earlier this week released a statement denying any involvement with resale platforms Viagogo and Gigsberg, clarifying that they do not collaborate with third-party sellers for Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres' tour in India. The company strongly condemned ticket scalping, and confirmed it had lodged its own complaint with law enforcement.
