'Traitors will ... ': Uddhav Thackeray says Shinde bloc to be 'jobless' after polls

NEW DELHI: Uddhav Thackeray , Maharashtra's former CM, on Saturday sharpened his attack on the chief minister Eknath Shinde-led rebel faction, saying "no traitor will be given entry into his party after they turn jobless".

The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief's remark was in the backdrop of the impending Maharashtra assembly election. Uddhav claimed that MLAs supporting CM Shinde would be "jobless" after the state polls.

"After one-and-half months, these traitors (MLAs, MPs who rebelled against the party) will come to us for jobs because they will be jobless. I am not going to give a job to any traitor after the polls," Thackeray was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Addressing a job fair organised by his party, Thackeray claimed the people of the state "will show the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena its place in the assembly polls".

Thackeray also claimed that his party, after winning the polls, would "take account" of the loot of state resources.

He also took a dig at PM Modi, saying whenever the PM "lays the foundation stone of a project it never gets complete".

No big project has started in Maharashtra after his government was toppled in 2022 due to instability in the state, Thackeray claimed.

On Hindutva , the political ideology which both BJP and Shiv Sena claim to ascribe, Uddhav said: "Our Hindutva is the one that helps burn the cooking gas, while the BJP's Hindutva is the one that burns down the house."

Rebellion in Shiv Sena

In 2022, the Shiv Sena, which was the largest party in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), saw a vertical split when Eknath Shinde and 39 other MLAs revolted against then CM Uddhav Thackeray and joined hands with BJP.

The defection of a majority of Sena MLAs led to the collapse of the MVA government, prompting Uddhav to resign as CM. Shinde then formed a Shiv Sena-BJP government with former CM Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy. Several political leaders credited Fadnavis for engineering the split in Shiv Sena.

The BJP leader himself admitted to playing a key role in the Shinde-led revolt, calling it "an act of revenge".

Later, assembly speaker and BJP leader Rahul Narwekar held that the faction led by Shinde was the "real Shiv Sena" when it emerged on June 21, 2022. He also declared the appointments of legislator Bharat Gogawale as the Shiv Sena whip and Shinde as the party leader valid.
