NEW DELHI: A five-storey building has collapsed in Mathu Colony on the road leading to Chamyana Super Specialty Hospital in Shimla.
Local residents said due the construction of the four-lane road, huge cracks had developed under the building and this morning the building collapsed, while other buildings adjacent to it are also in danger.
Several videos of the collapse have gone viral on social media. One clip shared by X user Chaudhary Parvez shows the building crashing down in seconds. In the video, the building’s green-coloured roof can be seen giving way, with debris falling rapidly as the entire structure collapses.
No loss of life was reported as the building was vacant and no one was residing in it at the time.
One user on social media posted a video with the caption: “A multistorey building collapses in Shimla's Bhattakufar area due to incessant rain . Authorities are on the ground assessing damage and ensuring safety. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has issued a red alert in Himachal for the next three days.”
Another user posted with the caption: “First rain and a multistorey building collapses in Shimla. Monsoon has just started and destruction is already here. The big question is, what lessons were learnt from previous disasters, or are we going to repeat the same story again?”
