A video of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar sharply rebuking local governance lapses during a surprise early morning visit to the Hinjewadi IT Park area on Saturday has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate.
The footage, which shows Pawar visibly frustrated while addressing Ganesh Jambhulkar, a local sarpanch, during the inspection of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s civic conditions, captures him warning about the migration of IT companies from Pune’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park to other states.
"We are ruined. The entire Hinjewadi IT Park is relocating, leaving Pune and Maharashtra for Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Is anyone even bothered?" social media claimed that Pawar said in the video.
The deputy CM, who also holds the portfolio of Pune’s guardian minister, made the remarks while responding to civic grievances including waterlogging, traffic congestion, and inadequate maintenance in the IT corridor.
The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, spread over 2,800 acres and developed by the Maharashtra industrial development corporation (MIDC), is home to over 200 IT firms and accounts for more than 60% of the state’s IT exports. However, concerns over deteriorating infrastructure have persisted. Last year, the Hinjewadi industries association claimed that as many as 37 IT companies had exited the park due to inadequate civic support.
Saturday’s inspection came in the wake of the season’s first monsoon spell, which caused widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls, especially in areas populated by the IT workforce. Following instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Pawar and other senior officials have been conducting weekly site visits to track progress on remedial measures, reported ANI.
Speaking after his review, Pawar said, "Most of the problems in Hinjewadi have now been resolved, which the local residents themselves have acknowledged." He emphasized that the resolution process involved difficult administrative choices.
"While our intention is not to inconvenience anyone, resolving traffic congestion and waterlogging requires the removal of illegal constructions and encroachments. That work is currently underway," Pawar said as quoted by ANI.
Pawar added that the administration was receiving full cooperation from local representatives and government agencies. "We're getting full support, and this teamwork is crucial to bringing permanent solutions to the region's civic issues," he said.
Later, in a post on social media platform X, Pawar shared clips from the visit and wrote, “change is coming, every problem of Puneites will be solved..!”
He also reviewed key infrastructure projects under the Pune metropolitan region development authority (PMRDA), including roads in Hinjewadi, river pollution control efforts, and sewage management.
"Instructions were given to the concerned officials regarding further actions in this regard," Pawar stated in a separate update following a PMRDA meeting held in Pune.
As Pawar’s video continues to circulate widely, it has reignited conversations about Maharashtra’s infrastructure preparedness and investor confidence in Pune's IT corridor, with opposition leaders pointing to the viral clip as a sign of the government’s internal acknowledgment of lapses.
