A 53-year-old Chinese woman 's body has been recovered from the water off the coast of Melbourne 's Mornington Peninsula .
Emergency services were called to the base of the Cape Schanck boardwalk, but unfortunately, the woman, who was a Chinese national, was dead by the point police retrieved her from the water.
“Police winched the woman from the water. However, sadly she was already deceased,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
The police speculate that she was one of the three people who were swept off rocks near the boardwalk, and only two were able to return safely. Though her death is believed to be unsuspicious, police will compile a report for the coroner following the discovery.
As per 9News , two men were transported to Rosebud Hospital in a stable condition.
The stretch of the Victorian coastline has a tragic history of similar deadly accidents. A month earlier, a similar incident occurred where a man died after he was pulled from the water near Rye Pier.
In February, eight people were injured when a wave threw them onto rocks near Cape Schanck. Back in 2021, Aida Hamed lost her life after being swept off a rock along with three others at Bushrangers Bay .
