Charlie Kirk, conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder fatally shot at Utah Valley University on Thursday, was seen sharing Bible verses about hope and God’s plan earlier the same day.
Footage of Kirk speaking at a ‘Restaurant Tour’ event in Salt Lake City at 11.07 am, less than two hours before the attack, resurfaced.
"One of my favorite verses though, is Romans 8:28 , which says that God works all things for good for those who love Him," Kirk said.
"It's a very freeing and liberating verse for those of us that are Christians, because we believe that when things can be really bad, God is working it for His good."
For millions of conservative Christians, Kirk symbolised the hope of the new Christian right, breaking down barriers between right-wing politics and evangelical faith to inspire the next generation.
Pastor Lahmeyer, a friend of Kirk, said, "I don't think there was anyone in Christian conservative circles who was not impacted by Charlie Kirk," as quoted by The New York Times.
He added that Kirk had introduced him to the Trump family years before he became prominent in national politics.
Kirk, 31, was addressing students at Utah Valley University (UVU) courtyard when a single gunshot rang out. Video footage captured him collapsing as shocked spectators screamed and fled.
Investigators in Utah have recovered the rifle used in the attack, the FBI confirmed Thursday. Robert Bohls, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office, said the weapon is a high-powered bolt-action rifle.
US President Donald Trump who described Kirk "a very, very good friend" has announced that Kirk would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom .
