Dr Wong Lu Yang , the suspended president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kota Bharu, has publicly apologised to his wife after an alleged affair involving him went viral online, leading to his removal from the youth organisation.
In a Facebook video posted on Wednesday, Wong admitted that his family had been receiving “various videos and photos” for months before the controversy broke. He said he had already confessed his actions to his wife and sought her forgiveness earlier.
“I chose to be honest with my partner and seek her forgiveness. We reached a consensus, and she decided to let me return to the family to jointly manage our marriage and family,” Wong said in the clip, thanking her for “forgiving me again.”
The case has since triggered legal proceedings. Wong, who runs DW Aesthetic by Medicure Klinik in Tanah Merah, said, “Those who should be held responsible will be held responsible,” while asking for privacy for his family.
The scandal gained traction after a video allegedly showing Wong with a woman inside a BMW circulated widely. According to AsiaOne, the footage was reportedly recorded by the woman’s husband before being shared online.
Wong has also been accused in other clips of inappropriate conduct at his clinic, reported Mothership.
As per TRP, JCI Kota Bharu suspended Wong on the same day the controversy escalated, stressing that the matter was “a personal issue concerning the current president” and unrelated to the organisation’s mission. His role is now being filled on an interim basis by the immediate past president Tan Zhi Qian .
Wong has also claimed he and his family were subjected to blackmail prior to the scandal surfacing. “I refused to compromise and blackmail,” he wrote in a separate Facebook post, expressing guilt that his wife was “hurt a second time.”
The controversy has drawn heavy online backlash, prompting JCI Kota Bharu to urge the public not to “spam or attack” its social media pages, saying such actions disrupt the spirit of volunteerism.
Wong’s wife also appeared briefly in the apology video, appealing: “I hope everyone can respect our privacy and not implicate our children or family.”
