Mandsaur (Bhopal), April 27 — In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, a speeding van collided with a motorcycle and plunged into an uncovered well near Kachariya Chowpatty in the Narayangarh police station area of Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh. The horrific crash resulted in 12 deaths, including the van’s passengers, the motorcyclist, and a local villager who attempted a rescue.
Four others, including two children, were injured and have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed immediate financial assistance for the victims’ families.
Accident Details and Rescue EffortsThe Eco van, carrying 14 passengers from Khojnakheda village in Ratlam district, was en route to the Aantari Mata Temple in the Manasa region of Neemuch district. Around 1 PM, the van struck a motorcycle at Budha-Takrawad junction and lost control, plunging into an unprotected well.
Villagers rushed to the scene and began rescue operations, soon joined by police, administrative teams, and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) personnel. A crane was deployed to extract the van, and water was pumped out of the well to aid recovery efforts. Eleven bodies were retrieved along with four survivors. Tragically, Manohar Singh, a villager who had bravely entered the well to rescue others, also lost his life, reportedly due to toxic gases.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, along with Collector Aditi Garg, SP Abhishek Anand, and other senior officials, supervised the rescue efforts at the site. Devda later confirmed that 16 individuals were involved in the incident, including two children.

DIG Manoj Kumar Singh stated that the cause of death for most victims—whether due to internal injuries or inhalation of toxic gases—will be confirmed following post-mortem examinations.
CM Announces Ex-Gratia CompensationChief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, expressing condolences via social media, announced financial aid from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund: ₹2 lakh for each deceased’s family, ₹1 lakh for seriously injured individuals, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.
He prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families, also wishing the injured a swift recovery.
