Amid the success of small and mid-budget Bollywood films, I was hearing a buzz about a Tamil movie, which scored 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and received positive reviews from all the critics who watched it in theatres.
Maharaja, a Tamil thriller that is creating quite a buzz among cinephiles, has been attracting Vijay Sethupathi fans and people who are suckers for good thrillers.

Amid much anticipation, I decided to watch the film and in my city, I managed to book a late night show.
I had my scepticism about the film, but I also trusted Vijay Sethupathi’s script selection and with an empty slate, I entered the theatre and OH MY GOD! When I took the exit, I held my head in disbelief, wondering what the hell I had just witnessed.
About the filmA barber named Maharaja shows up at a police station to file a complaint for his missing dustbin but there is more to it than just a stolen tin can.
Here are 3 reasons why you should watch the film in theatres The screenplayThe first five minutes of this movie will lock you to your seats.
You will laugh, gasp, and even feel like cheering, but the last hour of this film will grip you and will stay in your thoughts for a while.

A thriller reveals itself in the last frame or the climax, but Maharaja will shock you every 10 minutes with a new twist.
This film doesn’t have unnecessary songs.
Yes, Maharaja has situational comedy, but Nithilan Swaminathan has done an excellent job of balancing each and every element.
2. Anurag KashyapAs I mentioned earlier, my biggest scepticism before watching this film was about Anurag Kashyap’s acting, which was quite shaky in his earlier movies, including Akira and AK vs AK, but man, he has nailed the role of Selvam, who is an electrician by day, and a deadly robber and rapist by night.
You will detest, despise, and hate his character in the film and wish that worse things happen to him.
That is the power of a high-calibre director.
3. The metaphors and timelineThe metaphors used in this film are excellent and the timeline is non-linear.
You will have to be alert and connect the dots after each and every frame, but the beauty of Maharaja is, that the director makes us follow each and every timeline without even mentioning it.
I highly recommend this film and you must watch it in the theatres near you because movies like this deserve your time and attention.
