Oleksandr Usyk was detained by police at Krakow airport after a 'misunderstanding', days before he is due in London to take in the fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

The Ukrainian boxer, 37, was spotted being led away by uniformed men with his hands behind his back. The heavyweight champion of the world confirmed the incident was quickly cleared up and thanked the Polish police for their conduct,

He posted on social media: "Dear Friends. A misunderstanding took place. It was quickly resolved. Thanks to all who got concerned. Thanks to Ukrainian diplomats for the efficient support. And respect to Polish Police for conducting their obligations with no regards to height, weight, reach and regalia. Thanks God for everything."

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky issued his own statement, confirming Usyk had been released in a post on Telegram. "Talked on the phone with Oleksandr Usyk when he was detained," the leader posted.

"I was outraged by this attitude towards our citizen and champion. He instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiza and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko to immediately find out all the details of the incident at the Krakow airport.

"As soon as I was informed that everything is fine, our champion was released and no one is detaining him anymore."

Usyk's wife, Kate attempted to ease fears over the incident and suggested an explanation will be forthcoming. She posted on her Instagram story: "Everything is ok, everything is fine!!! Alexander will explain everything later!!! nothing to be criminal ... Good night to you all!!!"

Usyk is set to face Tyson Fury once again on December 21st after defeating him earlier this year to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. Saudi Arabia will host the bout as Fury looks to bounce back from his first professional loss.

The Ukrainian boxer is already in camp for the occasion as he looks to extend his championship reign. "Now we have started, we're going to the training camp," he said earlier this month.

"From the last fight with Tyson Fury, I learned a lot about him, a lot of the things that I saw in the fight I didn't see on TV with all the fights that I saw of Tyson Fury.

"So we will prepare even better and God willing, with God's victory, we will show our best shape again. I have incredible motivation. I'm often told that I've done everything, what is next, there is nothing further. But we just work every day , every day is a new day."

Amidst his preparations, Usyk planned to take in the heavyweight bout between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois at Wembley. The duo fight on Saturday evening in front of almost 96,000 fans.

Usyk defeated both fighters before taking on Fury for the first time. Dubois is hoping to take inspiration from accusations he 'quit' in his loss to Usyk, and plans to break Joshua mentally as a means to continuing his comeback which has seen him win the IBF title.

"I've got to make him quit, break him down, That's my mindset going into this. Making him quit, breaking him," he told Sky Sports. "I believe I can. I'm turning it round now at this stage of my career. I've come through my ups and downs, just turning it round. [I'm going to] enjoy the moment, let all the talking be done, let all the statements be made. I'm in a good place right now and I'm ready to fight. I looked into his eyes, and I don't know, I'm so used to it now. It's part of the game."
