BANGALORE: S.S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), today inaugurated a cutting-edge cybersecurity research and development center near Bengaluru's international airport. The new facility, named "Cyber Nalanda," is being established by SISA, a leading global provider of forensic-driven cybersecurity solutions.
The vision behind Cyber Nalanda is to position India as a worldwide leader in cybersecurity innovation. The center will focus on academic collaboration, substantial research investments, and addressing the global cybersecurity skills gap, as outlined by Dharshan Shanthamurthy, Founder and CEO of SISA.
SISA has committed to allocating 10% of its annual revenue to research and development. This investment will ensure that the solutions created at Cyber Nalanda are designed in India but are robust enough to secure global digital spaces.
In addition to its research initiatives, the center will offer ANAB Accredited certification programs aimed at preparing the next generation of cybersecurity experts. This effort is intended to help bridge the global shortfall of 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs, as highlighted by Shanthamurthy.
During the launch event, Somanath emphasized the growing significance of cybersecurity in protecting critical infrastructure. He noted that as technology advances, so do the threats, making it crucial to build a robust ecosystem for developing security tools and solutions.
Somanath, reflecting on his career, mentioned how cybersecurity has evolved from basic antivirus programs to complex systems necessary for national security. He highlighted that ISRO’s missions, including Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan, which are often monitored from around the world, are vulnerable to cyber threats. Strengthening research in cybersecurity is therefore imperative.
Shanthamurthy stressed that with the rise of technologies such as AI, robotics, 6G, and quantum computing, new risks are emerging. Cyber Nalanda aims to address these challenges with innovative approaches and research.
The set up of Cyber Nalanda marks a significant step towards enhancing global cybersecurity capabilities and securing the digital future.
